This Hutzelbrot, shrivelled pear bread, is lean and fruity with no added sugar, packed with dried fruit, nuts and spices in a protective bread crust. All sugars are bound within the dried fruit and will only get released slowly, that's why it is widely appreciated by hikers and mountain walkers and people looking for sweet and healthy treats.
The pears, some are almost extinct old varieties from a non-commercial small producer in Bavaria, are dried in a traditional way in wood fired kiln. Only few farmers still have these century old skills and knowledge.

The Great Taste Awards judges found it to have "Great artisan appearance, masses of fruit and whole nuts and packed with flavour. The balance of fruit, nuts and spices is excellent. The judges were ready for more! We were intrigued by the appearance which is unusual and attractive. We thought the balance of spices was excellent and we liked the texture and the clear tastes of the fruits."
The Bavarian Black Bun tastes a bit like Christmas pudding. It is eaten cold, sliced and some like it with butter or cheese.
Storage: Store in a cool place and consume within a week.
