Grown in the fresh climate of the Kenyan highlands, purple tea comes from a unique cultivar which instead of producing green leaves produces purple ones. The purple comes from anthocyanin the flavonoid responsible for giving blueberries their purplish colour. Anthocyanin has high levels of antioxidants, which have attributed health benefits.
Purple tea is processed much like a Japanese green in order to preserve the antioxidants and is hand-picked by small-scale farmers on small, privately owned, plantations. The tea tastes like sweet plum and can be described as having a flavour similar to an oolong tea, with a lighter body than many black teas.
Comes in a 50g Retail Box
To brew, use one heaped tsp per person in a warmed pot and add freshly drawn boiling water. Brew for 3-4 minutes according to taste. Drink without milk and sugar.
Chantler Teas are a Pembrokeshire based family business run by tea enthusiasts who hope to convert as many people as they can to the delicious (and healthy!) delight that is loose leaf tea drinking.
All their teas are carefully sourced from small privately owned plantations who are signatories to Fair-trade and/or the Ethical Tea Partnership.
