A special edition pear spirit made with only one variety of vintage perry pear, either Dymock Red Pear or Speart Pear.
There is a very restricted number of these pear trees, which makes these spirits almost unique and very sought after.
The fruit is grown and fermented on Charles Martell's own Gloucestershire farm in the heart of fruit growing country before being distilled with care in the farm's restored 17th century distillery.
With only 28 bottles of the Dymock Red and 6 bottles of the Speart Pear left, this makes them one of the rarest spirits in the world!
The Dymock Red Pear - Also known as Thurston's Red, Billy Thurston, this variety is critically rare. Mr W.Thurston at the Whitehouse, Dymock is credited with starting this variety. Being a medium to light cropping variety it was used for perry making, with greenish yellow or yellowish skin with red flush. The one remaining tree was tracked down by its distinctive tree growth habit followed by reference to its fruit. More trees have been propagated from this 'mother' tree and there are now a number growing at Hunts Court (Extract from Pears of Gloucestershire by Charles Martell 2011 & 2013).
