Here's a little more information about each product

Sourpress

Our range of infused sourpresses are a delicious, dairy free, vegan friendly alternative to cheese that's nut and soy free. 

They're also free from artificial additives and flavourings, stabilisers, emulsifiers, gums and thickeners.

Handmade in the north of England and based on a traditional recipe using only 100% organic wheat, each sourpress is fermented for at least a month, before being infused with either naturally fermented red chillies, fermented garlic or a hint of whiskey. 

Herbie's Homemade sourpress tastes a lot like cheese. Texture wise it is crumbly, somewhere between a Lancashire and Cheshire - some might say that's about right for a cheese made in Greater Manchester! Firm and sliceable, chilli sourpress tastes amazing on crackers, or in a crusty baguette. Try crumbling over chilli for a tasty vegan fajita. Can also be used as a pizza topping.

Flavours:

The chilli sourpress is made using only naturally fermented chillis that produce a deliciously round, complex chilli flavour rather than intense heat.Each sourpress round is dusted with chilli flakes for a natural preservative effect and additional spice. To adjust to the heat you prefer, simply dust off some flakes. 

The garlic sourpress is infused with naturally fermented garlic and fresh herbs, not overpowering but definitley there.

Our original sourpress is infused with a hint of fine Scotch whiskey.

Shelf life

Unopened in your fridge, sourpress will last 3 weeks from despatch. Once opened, use within 7 days and seal well between uses. 

Storage

Store your sourpress in the fridge upon receipt.

Weight

This cheese comes in a 200g wedge, vacuum packed in a recyclable/compostable vacuum bag.  Shipped with ice sheets that can also be recycled. 

Suitable for those with a lactose intolerance or following a plant-based diet. Raw, fermented foods have been shown to increase the diversity of gut friendly microbes, contributing to overall wellbeing. This product contains wheat and is not suitable for those with gluten intolerance.   

Chilli Chutney

Good cheese, calls for great chutney. Our handmade chutney contains all naturally fermented chillies, tomatoes, garlic and ginger, blended with warm spices and sweetened with dark sugar. With rounded, complex flavours rather than burning heat, this is the perfect naturally fermented accompaniment to our sourpress - or cheese.   

Tortas

To accompany our sourpress and chutney, we have sourced the finest handmade tortillas from Spain, baked with olive oil and a hint of rosemary and thyme.
