Boost Flavour With Fruit

My family and I recently went on holiday to the south of France, and this is partially what has inspired this post. Fruit is so wonderful and flavoursome, and I know that at home, we were stuck in a bit of a rut with fruit. We'd always buy the same fruit and always eat it in the same way. Below are some of the ideas that I've taken from France and have implemented at home.

  • Fruit actually goes surprisingly well with meat. Step away from the traditional pork and apple and duck and berries and try them both with apricot. The fruit is a little drier but the sweetness comes through really well.
  • Warm blueberries are heaven; it takes a lot of the sharpness away. Instead of having them in American Pancakes or muffins, stir a handful into warm porridge.
  • Speaking of porridge, you can stir in mixed seeds (we use a pre-made mix of pumpkin, chia and sunflower with dried fruits). You can also sprinkle these on salads or have sprinkled onto pretty much any meal.
  • If you want to add fruit to a BBQ, why not make kebabs? Fruit kebabs are popular in France with apricot and pineapple being the most common fruits.

Thanks for reading and happy flavour boosting!

Totally agree Elizabeth, especially on combining fruit and meat - if used correctly the result is delicious!

I think it's something I definitely want to experiment with more - my trip to France has really inspired me.
