Indulgent Bonfire Night Treats to Make At Home Tonight

We all remember, remember the 5th of November (or so we should) - not least for the naughty foods we just can’t say no to! And why should we? It's Bonfire Night, after all. To help you celebrate in truly delicious style, here are some indulgent Bonfire Night treats for you to make at home tonight:

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

  • 1 cup of coconut milk (or any other milk)
  • 2 tsp of raw honey
  • 1 tsp of peppermint oil or essence
  • 100g of dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 2 tsp of cocoa powder

Heat the milk in a pan on a medium heat until just below boiling, then add the chocolate chopped into chunks, peppermint oil and cocoa powder. Just before serving add the honey and stir together. You can always add some double cream to thicken it up and make it more creamy, or swap peppermint oil for orange zest, dark chocolate with orange oil or cinnamon and nutmeg for a spiced twist.

Gourmet S’mores

  • A pack of digestive biscuits
  • A pack of gourmet marshmallows
  • 1 bar of raw or dark chocolate (cocoa above 60%), broken into squares

Toast your marshmallow over the bonfire (or flame of the hob!) using a skewer. Once gooey and soft, sandwich between two digestive biscuits along with a couple of squares of chooclate, then squash together. Wait a minute or so for the chocolate to melt (if you can bear the wait!)

Healthy-Ish Toffee Apples

  • 200g of medjool dates
  • 4 tbsp of coconut oil, melted
  • ½ tbsp of lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 300ml of full fat coconut milk (from a tin)
  • ¼ cup of coconut sugar
  • 2 tbsp of water

In a food processor mix the dates, coconut oil, lemon juice and vanilla until creamy. In a pan mix the coconut sugar and water on a medium heat and keep stirring for a few seconds then add the coconut milk. Stir continuously for about 10 minutes until the mixture is thick and dark, then add the date mix at the end.

Wash your apples and dry. Place a stick through the stem and dip in the gooey caramel mixture, then place onto greaseproof paper and leave to cool.
