Bored of Christmas Dinner? Mix Things Up With These 6 Alternative Ideas

Whether you're part of the "anything but Turkey" brigade or just fancy a change – there are plenty of great Christmas dinner ideas that don’t involve the same old things. The following suggestions will perhaps seem blasphemous to some, but hopefully they’ll aid others in choosing something fresh and original to serve on the big day. If you're bored of Christmas dinner, mix things up with these 6 alternative ideas, or take a look at the amazing range of Christmas hampers which are available from Yumbles today!

1. Wild Mushroom and Chesnut Roast

A nut roast goes well with the traditional trimmings: bread sauce, gravy, Yorkshires, carrots, sprouts. Adding a mixture of wild mushrooms mushrooms will not only give it more substance and moisture, but more flavour. Chesnuts are a great addition to any nut roast too, thanks to their seasonal texture and taste. Just Google nut roast recipes and experiment!

2. Rosemary Rack of Lamb

Blow the Turkey out the water with a head-turning rack of succulent lamb. It may not be a Christmas classic, but it most definitely should be. Roast the whole rack and cover with sliced garlic, rosemary and plenty of olive oil, then leave to cool slightly in the middle of the table to impress your guests.

3. Beef Wellington

Cutting into this traditional dish will have the same majesty as, if not more than, carving a turkey. The layers of pastry and pâté, before the beef itself, don’t just make the beef wellington look fantastic, but taste incredible – if done correctly it's a pretty show-stopping centrepiece. Veggie? No problem, swap the beef for an array of mushrooms, sweet potatoes, blue cheese and herbs.

4. Butternut Squash Pie

A hearty, yet flavoursome dish that will have even the meat-lovers tucking into. Layer up your pastry with roasted butternut squash, spinach, feta and goats cheese, mushrooms and shallots then serve wish good old yorkshire puddings and the rest of the classics.

5. Red Wine Reduction

Especially if beef is on the table, this sauce is an excellent alternative to gravy – although it goes perfectly with other meats and plenty of veggie dishes. Like gravy, this can be as thick or thin as you like. Flavour with stock, rosemary, garlic – and experiment!

6. Spiced Apple Pie

For those who aren’t keen on mincemeat, but are still quite partial to a sweet pastry, this is an ideal Christmas desert. By adding cinnamon, giner and some allspice to your apple filling, the traditional apple pie becomes a festive treat.

What will you be eating for Christmas dinner this year? One thing for sure is that you can't change dessert and here at Yumbles you will find the best Christmas pudding on the market! If you have any more alternative Christmas ideas you'd like to share, leave us a comment below.
