Chocolate: a love affair for everyone (vegan and dairy free chocolate lovers included!)

Often for anyone trying to follow a healthier lifestyle, or moving to a dairy free diet or vegan lifestyle, no longer enjoying one of life's greatest pleasures - chocolate - is an unbearably tough adjustment.  Possibly one of the hardest (or was that just me?).

Fortunately, things are changing in the modern food industry and it's now fair to say that chocoholics no longer need to find their dietary needs in conflict with their number 1 love.

Let’s talk about cacao for a bit. It is mainly grown in Africa and South America. When the cacao pods grow on the tree, they cut it, remove the cacao seeds and let them ferment. Then they dry the seeds and remove the skin. The next step is to put the seeds through a mill that turns them into nibs, the purest form of chocolate. With nibs, you can then make cacao butter and cacao powder. To make chocolate, you need to roast the nibs and then grind them into liquid chocolate.

This is how pure chocolate is made. It is naturally dairy free and vegan chocolate and in it's purest form incredibly healthy. First of all, it is a very powerful source of antioxidants and has healthier fats. It is also believed that this pure vegan chocolate may improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, help drop your cholesterol levels, lower the chances of cardiovascular diseases, improve brain function and protect your skin against the sun.

All of the above make pure naturally vegan, dairy free chocolate healthier than any other chocolate.

Of course for most people's palates naturally bitter pure chocolate needs to be sweetened up.  Many of today's innovative chocolatiers, particularly those producing vegan chocolate, keen to address growing demand for refined sugar free chocolate options are using sweeteners such as coconut blossom sugar. This sugar is derived from the coconut palm tree and is touted as being more nutritious and lower on the glycemic index than refined sugar.
