Meet The Maker - Spice Kitchen
Spice Kitchen started as a retirement hobby for Sanjay’s mother, never meant to be a business. Using her knowledge of spices and love of sewing, they creating a range of spice tins with silk sari gift wraps. But through building their brand online and attending consumer shows, they grew their loyal following of customers and the rest is history!
How did you come up with the name of your business?
Very quickly without thought, ebay needed us to move from a personal to business account and it was the first thing that popped into my head!
Tell us a bit about your ingredients and how you source them
We source the best quality raw spices from all over the world, and make our blends with care in small batches.
What is your favourite product from your range and why?
I love our classic Indian spice tin, it’s where we started and is still our best selling item. I also love our mulling spices!
Describe a typical day.
No typical day! Blending, packing, new product development, accounting, sales, admin, buying machinery, shows, talking to stockists, updating listings, corporate orders - the list goes on!
What part of your job do you enjoy the most and why?
I love doing shows, trade and consumer. I love to meet people face to face, from stockists to the consumers and interact.
What have been some memorable business challenges along the way?
We cooked for the CEO of eBay and his senior management team in London which was an amazing experience. We also were filmed for the Hairy Bikers which aired in January 2017. The whole filming experience was very daunting but happily the edit made us look good!
Who are some other producers that you admire and why?
So many producers! Godminster Cheese, Cheeky Food Company, Tigg’s Dressings, Holy Lama - I am a big foodie and I am lucky to call so many food producers my friends now!
