The Best of Cornwall - Meet 5 Cornish Artisan Producers
Cornwall has a flourishing artisan food producing scene covering everything from charcuterie meats to small batch jams and preserves, perfect pastries and delectable desserts, and even melt in the mouth marshmallows. Some of our favourite local Cornish artisans are profiled below with links to their pages if you would like to learn more.
The Cornish Company was created by two friends Tom and James who had a vision of bringing high quality Cornish food to a wider audience. They have created varied hampers which include everything from authentic Cornish cream teas replete with local clotted cream and delicious miniature preserve pots, to Cornish pasties, biscuits and prosecco. There is also a gluten free cream tea hamper option, with freshly baked gluten free scones, so nobody has to miss out on these yummy treats regardless dietary needs!
Born in Cornwall out of a passion and a hobby, Langley’s Rocky Road is now an award-winning chocolate gift company based in Newquay. Many locally sourced ingredients are used, including Cornish gin and sea salt, as well as premium Belgian chocolate.
The owner, Amanda, is keen that the wonderful confections she produces are also beautifully packaged and all of her products make amazing gifts for this reason. The attention to detail and care that goes into every aspect of Amanda’s work is a real standout feature of her products.
Starting life as a way for Jake and Abi to come up with Christmas gift ideas for family and friends, the Cornish Larder quickly grew into a standalone business. They produce small-batch preserves and have refined their selections by a process of experimenting with different flavours and figuring out what tastes best.
Their chilli jam made with locally-grown Cornish chillies is a must try and their other flavours are no less intense and interesting. Fun fact: each flavour is made in collaboration with another Cornish business.
Richard and Fionagh Harding have created the Cornish Charcuterie, award-winning British charcuterie, “Popti savoury thins”, which are fine savoury biscuits and authentic British rum. All of this is done on their farm and they produce the meat for the soft and hard charcuterie there, including free range Cornish lop pigs.
The Cornish Charcuterie specialises in unusual and local ingredient combinations such as thin flake Cornish sea salt and Cornish seaweed’s dulse. Seaweed and cider salami is a particular favourite and comes highly recommended.
Offering a decadent, tempting taste of heaven, Cloud Nine Marshmallows are the brainchild of Murphy Williams who makes every batch by hand with no artificial ingredients. Celebrity fans of the brand include Sophie Dahl and Kirstie Allsopp and it is easy to see why this indulgent treat is so popular.
Intense flavours and soft, luxurious textures combine to make this an ideal way to tell someone you love them or to give them a birthday treat to remember.
