Not Just Nutella: Why Hazelnuts Rock

They’re tasty, healthy and most importantly - are an essential ingredient in Nutella! Yes we’re talking hazelnuts. You’ll recognise them from their dark brown, tough shell. They're also most likely the ones you crack open at Christmas with the used once-a-year nutcracker. Hazelnuts have a mild, creamy taste which makes them a favourite for snacking, baking and pairing with chocolate - yum!

That’s not all they’re good for...

  • Hazelnuts are rich in fatty acids such as Omega-9 which has been linked to reducing blood pressure, lowering cholesterol and preventing heart-related diseases.
  • This particular nut is exceptionally high in protein and fibres - essential for growth, repair and a healthy digestive system. A small handful can provide you with nearly a whopping 4g of protein!
  • Hazelnuts are packed with vital vitamins and minerals into the body. They contain the highest amount of folates of any nut, which is thought to help reduce blood pressure and boost immunity too.
  • Because they're a good source of healthy fatty acids, hazelnuts can be a great weight loss tool. They help speed up the metabolism and make us feel fuller for longer, in turn help us burn off those extra calories quicker

Hazelnuts are so versatile, we can add them to all our favourite things to give them a subtle nutty taste. Try grinding them up into coffee, mixing them into chocolate, sprinkling toasted hazelnuts onto greek yoghurt or just enjoy them raw. If you have any great ways to enjoy these healthy nuts, please share!
