What to do With: Strawberries
Wimbledon may be over but strawberries are still in season! If you've been lucky enough to find some ripe, juicy strawberries at your local market (or even better, picked your own), you'll need to use them quickly. Strawberries spoil quickly at this time of year, so try to use them within a day of picking if you can. If you're looking for an alternative to classics like strawberries and cream, here are some different ideas:
What to do with strawberries:
Salsa: For a sweet twist on this mexican side dish, replace tomatoes with strawberries. Finely chop strawberries, onion, avocado, jalapenos and a splash of lime juice for a summer berry salsa! Grab some cheesy nachos and get dipping.
Homemade Strawberry Daiquiris: You can’t buy strawberries without trying a strawberry daiquiri! Daiquiris are quick and easy to make and taste amazing. Simply add strawberries, white rum, sugar and lime juice into a shaker. Pour, and enjoy!
Ice Lollies: Not just for the kids. Blend strawberries and other fruits such as watermelon with orange juice, then add to a ice lolly mold and freeze.
Salad: It may seem strange at first, but adding strawberries to your salad will give it a lovely, sweet twist! Try a quinoa, strawberry and avocado salad - utterly delicious.
With Balsamic Vinegar: Strawberries taste amazing with balsamic vinegar! Balsamic really brings out the full, sweet flavour of strawberries. Mix strawberries, black pepper and balsamic vinegar in a bowl. Leave for an hour, then serve as a starter on crackers with goats cheese.
