Five Easy Ways to Start Eating Healthier This Autumn: Number Three

Time for tip number 3! - Don’t Cut Back, Just Eat The Right Foods

Before the Christmas period is upon us again and we start consuming our own body weight in food, many of us try to eat healthier and take notice of what we’re eating. We have gone through a number of special diets here in the UK, from cutting out carbs to juicing up our food into a processor, but many of these can make us worse than we were before.

Eat Real, Whole Food

Juice cleanse and juice only diets have grown popular and many go days without eating proper food on this trend. Whilst these cut down the calories consumed, they also contain little energy, protein and can mess with our bowels as food is not being digested in the normal way. Our bodies need whole foods alongside plenty of water to rehydrate us, although drinking green smoothies and healthy juice drinks on a food based diet is good for us.

Eat More

The main problem busy working people face is skipping breakfast, many of us do it and it can often feel like we're helping ourselves lose weight by cutting this out - wrong. A healthy breakfast is a great way to start the day and control our weight by keeping our energy levels up and reduce cravings. Aiming to eat 3 meals a day with 2 to 3 healthy snacks in between can make sure we are constantly topping our bodies up with the nutrients and energy that it needs.

A Balanced Diet

The key to staying healthy and even losing weight is all down to diet and regular exercise. A balanced diet consists of starchy foods and carbohydrates such as whole wheat pasta, rice and potatoes, fruit and vegetables and a protein substance such as meat, fish or beans. Other foods to add into your daily meals would be dairy products like low fat, protein-rich greek yogurt and healthy fats such as nuts, seeds and avocados.  Taking notice of what you eat and planning your meals can ensure you eat much healthier rather than loading your plate with any old grub from your fridge.

Apart from eating a mix of nutrient rich foods that our body needs to keep being energized and keep a controlled weight, we also need to be on top of our water game. We are recommended to drink at least 2 litres of liquid a day, hopefully this will be water but other drinks such as juice, squash, tea and coffee also count. Beware of the sugar and fat content in drinks as these can do you more harm than good if you are not careful!
