Organic & Biodynamic Xarel'lo from Penedes in Spain
Avi Ton Xarello from Eudald Massaya Noya is a certified organic, bio-dynamic wine made in the Penedes wine region, just outside Barcelona, form a family of grape growers for more than 60 years.
Traditionally, Penedes is known for producing premium red wine and Cava. Two of the main grapes used in making cava are Macabeau and Xarello. Xarello in particular can make some excellent still white wines.
The wine is a homage to the wine makers Father and Grandfather of his children from whom its gets its name. It is produce in small quantities.
Pale gold in the glass with a nice floral aroma on the nose combined with some lovely ripe stone and tropical fruit. Aged in chestnut oak barrels for three months which gives it a lovely length, a slight toast and medium body. A great wine from a small producer.
If you are looking to pair this organic and biodynamic white wine with food then hardened cheeses, sushi or cod with a creamy sauce will work well.
