This Delux Fresh Wasabi & Plant Set from The Wasabi Company is an impressive selection, ideal for any wasabi enthusiast.
Wasabi is difficult to grow commercially and had never been successfully cultivated in Europe until The Wasabi Company began growing and harvesting fresh wasabi on their Dorset and Hampshire farms.
This set makes a fantastic and unusual gift, ideal for cooks and 'grow your own' lovers.
Includes:
- 100g rhizome
- Wasabi plant
- Small stainless steel wasabi grater
- Bamboo wasabi grater brush
- Fresh wasabi preparation & storage guide
Each prized rhizome takes at least 18 months to reach harvest. Finely grating it breaks down the wasabi at a cellular level, instigating an enzyme reaction that delivers an aromatic, fresh flavoured pungency which has a natural sweetness.
The wasabi plant will grow well in soil in the garden in a damp shady spot or grows into a large houseplant in a pot. It is 100% edible so you or the lucky recipient can enjoy the leaves, leaf stems and flowers while waiting for the rhizomes to develop.
Fresh wasabi is traditionally paired with sushi and sashimi, however, it is very versatile and can also be used to flavour dressings, butters, sauces, ceviches, gravadlax, sorbets, foams and meat or fish.
The grater included is specially designed to help you create finely textured wasabi, while the brush is perfect for gathering all the precious wasabi from the grater.
Everything comes presented in a presentation box, to make a wonderful gift.
If you have purchsed this item as a Christmas gift, please select a date from the 19th December onwards to receive it so it's fresh.
Instructions are included in the box to re-pack fresh items:
If you have purchased a wasabi rhizome, please remove the muslin, rinse the rhizome in cold water, dry with a cloth and place it in the fridge, in the plastic bag, without sealing the bag.
If you have purchased a plant, please remove from the protective cardboard layer and bag and keep somewhere cool, which is draught and frost-free. Keep the compost moist, but do not stand in water.
If your rhizome and/or plant have been purchased as a gift, you will find that we have included items that will help you refresh the packaging:
Wasabi label - use to reseal the postage box
Spare muslin cloth - use to re-wrap the rhizome with clean cloth and return to unsealed bag prior to giving
Ice pack - follow the instructions on the bag to enable you to reuse the pack when making up the box, this will keep wasabi cool for 12-24 hours depending on surrounding temperature
Ask the recipient of the wasabi to refrigerate as soon as they can after opening. The rhizome will store well for two weeks in the plastic bag it was sent in, keep the bag in the fridge, unsealed.
ALL ORDERS ARE PACKED AND SENT IN OUR GIFT BOX. The box will be sealed in a sleeve to keep it clean and sent without our branding to keep your secret.
