The hearty and nutritious Borlotti bean is widely used in Italian cooking. The beans are large and plump and when raw, ivory in colour with reddish-brown streaks. They take on a darker colour when cooked and the interior becomes floury. Borlotti beans are free from cholesterol and particularly rich in protein. They are perfect in soups, stews, pasta dishes and risottos.
Our Producer Alce Nero: Alce Nero was started in the 1970’s, when two cooperatives of young Italian farmers decided to undertake a new type of activity: one that would produce wholesome food while respecting the environment. Thus, Alce Nero pioneered the organic revolution, by combining old farming methods with the most advanced research on health and the environment.Today, the techniques have evolved, but their seal of quality is still based on the simple ingredients that Alce Nero was created from: love of the food, respect of the environment, and banning of synthetic chemical substances. All Alce Nero products are 100% organic certified by European Union law. This means that for all of their produce: the crop, the land on which it was grown, the factory in which it was processed, as well as the procedures and ingredients used are all organic certified.
