A pre-blended traditional Indian Daal Mix, which will allow you to make an authentic Indian Daal recipe easily
Pre-combined fresh spices and simple instructions. This pack contains a mix of Indian Daals & Spices, you just add a fresh tomato, onion and water and you will have a beautiful meal of cooked Indian lentils.
Recipe is based on a traditional homemade Indian recipe, excellent authentic results every time. Your Daal Mix comes in 3 sachets:
- Sachet 1- Green Daal / Lentils (100 g) & red lentils (100 g)
- Sachet 2- Garam masala, cumin, asafoetida, ginger powder, garlic powder & black pepper, turmeric, salt.
- Sachet 3- Chilli powder sachet (extra provided, season to taste)
Instructions (serves 4) You will need:
- A large pan with a lid
- 1 medium tomato, chopped finely
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 7 tablespoons oil or 50g butter (traditionally butter is used but use olive oil for healthier option)
- 10 g fresh ginger, chopped (optional, but we highly recommend it!)
- 10 g fresh coriander to taste (optional, but we highly recommend it!)
- Rinse Sachet 1 (daal / lentils) in water, making sure that the water runs clear (may need to drain the water 3 or 4 times). Drain.
- Heat the oil or butter in the pan. Add tomato and onion (and fresh ginger if you are including this), and sauté on medium heat for about a minute. Add the contents of sachet 2 and stir for 2 minutes.
- Pour in 1300 ml of water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and cover the pan. Simmer the daal for about 25 minutes.
- Add more water while cooking, if needed.
- Add 1 teaspoon of chilli powder from sachet 4 (less/more for your own taste).
- Add 10g of freshly chopped coriander.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, naan or chapatis.
