3 Reasons You're Hungry After Breakfast
Step one to living a healthy, balanced lifestyle is ensuring you start the day the right way, and that's with breakfast. The saying goes 'have breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince, and dinner like a Pauper'. Regardless of how jam packed your day may or may not be, your body needs a good, nourishing breakfast to start the day.
Your breakfast should ideally keep you going until lunchtime, however there are a couple of errors you may be making that leads you to the biscuit tin for some elevenses. So, here are three reasons why you may still be feeling peckish after breakfast...
There's too much sugar in your breakfast
The dreaded 's' word crops up again, however although a little natural sweetness isn't the worst thing, an entirely sugar laden breakfast is going to leave you craving more, and sooner than you think. Of course we all know by now that Coco Pops and Frosties make not a nutritious breakfast by now. However, that honey coated granola, or even that entirely fruit filled smoothie is still sugar. This is only going to make you hungry again, mid morning.
Opt for: homemade nutty granola, using coconut oil and the tiniest drizzle of maple syrup; eggs and avocado toast - the most complete meal if there ever was one; or almond butter and raspberry porridge.
You need protein
It can seem wrong to have a chicken stir fry for breakfast, but filling your plate or bowl with a good amount of protein first thing in the morning will certainly keep you going until lunchtime. Eggs are so perfect for breakfast, whether that be as an omelette, boiled eggs, poached eggs, fried eggs... That protein hit will keep your stomach working all morning to digest, therefore keeping you fuller for longer. A scoop of grass fed whey protein or a vegan alternative into a smoothie or porridge is another great way to ensure you'll stay full.
Coffee is not breakfast
It's beyond tempting to pick up a morning latte on your way to the office and skip breakfast altogether. You know that creamy milk and hit of caffeine will give you the buzz you need to at least keep your eyes open whilst you tap away at your computer. However, come 10-11am, your stomach is going to be growling so loud that the entire office will think a wild animal has been let loose. You need a decent amount of food first thing in the morning, and if needs be, make it portable so you can have it at work. Whether you've made yourself some overnight oats or bircher muesli, or whizzed up a vegetable based smoothie to have on the go with you, these are the things that will keep your energy levels up, and more importantly, your hunger satisfied.
