Why you should make the effort to eat with family
Recent surveys have shown that 20% of meals are now eaten alone in vehicles, 25% of meals are now fast food and eaten alone and 60% of families only eat together once per week.
Eating together has proven to have health benefits including:
- Eating an appropriate amount more consistently - because you eat more slowly and your body has time to realise it is full
- Higher self esteem (especially among children)
- Smaller chance of depression
- More likely to eat healthily (conscious that the other person is watching)
Hopefully, we can all make an effort to eat a meal with someone - and if you live alone, you can still gain these benefits - make sure you have regular meals alongside colleagues, friends or family.
