Top tips for staying motivated
Now that the weather has changed, you need to make sure you stay motivated to get out a run and not sit on the sofa with a cup of tea. So follow these top tips and hopefully continue your training throughout winter.
Set goals
Set yourself mini goals each week, these can be a number of runs, a total distance or even a time goal. Make sure you either write it down or tell someone - this will help to make it more real and will help to encourage you to achieve it.
Be yourself
Never compare yourself to anyone else. There will always be someone you know who can run faster, further and more than you. But thinking about their performance will not make a difference to your training. Stick to your pace and stay confident with it.
Sign up to a race
Having something to train towards is one of the best ways to stay motivated. Nobody wants to pay for an event and not be able to complete it in the time they want. I always book my race a minimum of 6 weeks away, giving you more than enough time to get the training in.
Be prepared
Make sure you have all the equipment you need. This includes running clothes, drinks (pre, during and post) and food. Having all of the right ingredients to make your training go as smoothly as it can will always help keep you going.
Find a friend
Having a running partner is another great way to stay motivated. If one of you can't be bothered, the likelihood is that the other one will be. Try to find a running partner that is a little bit faster than you, so they can push you and help you reach your goals.
